I've got an ECS PX1 (v1.0B) motherboard and I'm trying to use Speedfan 4.32
(beta) under Vista Ultimate RTM to control the fans. Speedfan lists five
temperatures on the board. Two are obvious (Core0/Core1). The other three
are:

Temp1: 35
Temp2: 35
Temp3: 28

I have no idea what Temp1/2 are. They're very stable (but not immovable).
I assumed Temp3 was a temperature somewhere on the motherboard approximating
the case temperature. During normal operation throughout the day, it might
start out at around 25 degrees and move up to 30 degrees. The problem came
up when I tried running Ortho to see what the temperatures would do.
Temp1/Temp2 temperatures edged up 1 degree (from 35 to 36). Temp3 almost
immediately jumped 13 degrees (from 28 to 41). The Core0/1 temperatures
quickly increased 12 degrees (from 50 to 62). Again, I'd been assuming that
the lowest temperature in the case was the ambient case temperature. But,
with an almost instantaneous jump in that temperature during the test, it
can't be (it would take longer to heat up the case's air volume). Plus,
that temperature jumped 5 degrees past those Temp1/2 values, which barely
budged. Does anyone have any idea on what these three temperatures
represent?

If it's of any use and I'm reading the material from Speedfan correctly,
these temperatures come from an IT8712F chip (ISA bus address = $290).
Intel 82801HB ICH8, SMBus base address $0500 revision 00000002.

I know it has been a while since you've posted this, but I ran across
your post today because I was having problems with SpeedFan. I have
the PX1 board and am concerned that my CPU is running too hot.

As far as SpeedFan goes, the two Core temps are the temperature
sensors on each core. Temp three is the sensor that is on the CPU
between cores (this is what is usually reported by motherboards and
such). The two Core sensors will generally be ~15C more than the Temp3
sensor. I'm not sure what the Temp1 and Temp2 sensors are...possibly
motherboard sensros outside the CPU???

Anyway, write back if you get this post.
