Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>msi-microstar (more info?)

Howdy.. New to Group! Bought an MSI-K8N-Neo4-F..have built other
systems with little problems? Pushed Clear CMOS button..1st..w/No Pwr.
Installed Mobo in Case..put in AMD Athlon 3700+ 64 w/HSF. Put in two
1GB Sticks of Corsair PC3200/400 ( Low-Dens./non-ecc/unbuff.-system
compatible ) in the 2 Green Slots. Slipped in WD 80GB ( 74GB?? )
"Raptor"..then eVGA GeForce 7600 GS ( 512MB )...then Lite-On DVD-CD-Rw
Combo. Have a Decent PSU rated at 550w..er..but..Hehe!! has actual 400w
Total .. +3.3v & +5v = 200w .. +3.3v & +5v & +12v = 400w. Has +3.3v =
30a & +12v = 25a . Anywho..put all this in connected Power
Supplies..IDE..SATA...powered Up..got 4 short repeated Beeps..Hmm?
Pwrd. down..unplugged..reseated DDR...resolved problem. Installed O.S.
( XP Pro ) then Mobo Software..then onto Vid. Card...then CD-Rom. Was
Amazed at how fast all this Loaded/Installed!! Anywho..let run for
awhile and adjusted/reset 19" LCD Mont. resol. etc. After this
done..went in and Unistalled "Realtek". Powered Down..unplugged..put in
S.B. Audigy4 in 2nd down PCI slot. ( 1st one too close to PCIe Vid Card
for me..no air flow!! ) Plugged pwr. back in..turned on..hit Power
Switch..came on for about 2 seconds...went Off?? Have pulled Mobo to
check for shorts..NO. Have pulled basically each component individually
and tried..no luck. Left sit overnight with NOTHING ( peripherals )
hooked up to it ( Vid. Card/HD/CDrom still in-hooked up )...hit Pwr.
Sw. and it Booted Up this a.m. ... ??
Pressed my Luck and hooked Mont./Keyboard/Mouse up...Booted up? Pressed
my Luck agian and installed Sound Card...NO Boot? Now down to No
Peripherals..again...and have let sit for half hour or so at a time,
but will not Boot. Keeps doing 1-2 second boot .. long enough to get
Keyboard lights to Flash n Activate Case Fans ( not hooked to Mobo)
then Off it goes?? Any Ideas/Help or Suggestions here will most
assuredly be GREATLY Appreciated!! Do not understand WHY installing
Sound Card can or could have caused this problem? Do NOT want to RMA
this Mobo until I can get a Handle on what may have taken place or
happened here...First!! Thanks alot to those who are Thoughtful enough
to Answer!!!! Yours, Leroy52

While it isn't clear in the manual, the optimum slots for double sided
memory is the first two slots, one of each color, but that isn't your
problem.

Three things to try:

(1) Make sure the onboard audio is turned off in the bios.
(2) Try a different PCI slot.
(3) Ebay the card and use onboard audio.

Another poster had a similar problem and I don't think she was able to
resolve it.
