Post subject: Strange DVD problem
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>gigabyte (more info?)

I have recently built myself a new system based on a Gigabyte 7N400Pro2
I have, since I built it a few weeks ago, had problems with Windows (XP
SP1a) picking up the DVD drive

The strange thing is that, if I put a CD / DVD in teh drive when the
computer starts up, it appears in Windows
If I don;t have a CD / DVD in teh drive when the machine boots, the drive
doesn;t appear and I cannot add it in any way.

I have put the DVD drive (a Samsung SD-606F) in back into my old computer
(Abit VP6) and it appears all teh time regardless of whether there is a CD /
DVD in the drive when it boots.
This would suggest that it is something with the M/board / IDE drivers

I have downloaded the latest nForce drives from nVidia and have checked,
several times, the cable and jumper settings.

Has anyone come across this problem or know of a resolution?
Any suggestions gratefully received - whilst not a showstopper, it is an
annoyance!

Thanks

It must be some kind of software that did that, like CDR/DVD-R program
Tweak soft e.t.c.
Check the UDMA timings of the ide channels in the device manager.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
