Okay, my newly built computer is acting very bizarre.
The Specs: AMD Sempron 1.5GHz, Abit KV7-V Skt A m.b, Maxtor 160Gb
DiamondMax Plus 9, 256Mb DDR, Sony CRX320E CD-RW/DVD Combo, BFG Nvidia
GeForce 4000 MX 64Mb.
I'm trying to install Mandrake Linux 10.1, for which I have burnt ISO's
of it. But here is the weird thing. I've put loads of cooling on the
machine. It's got a reasonable CPU cooler and fan, plus two 80mm case
fans.
When I try to boot in to the MDL installer, the temperature alarm
starts up when the CD drive starts going at a higher speed (when you
can hear the drive spinning). Within a few seconds of the CD revving
up, the warning sound is being made by my motherboard, then shortly
after, it auto powers down. I've left the warning and auto-power down
settings as default. But at this point, the CPU is absolutely fine.
It's well ventilated (I've got the machine open and a bloody great big
desk fan pointing straight at the mainboard).
I should be having another CD-RW/DVD drive arriving on Monday (I
ordered two the same by mistake). Plus I can experiment with my
brothers drive (which is the same - I bought the Sony one because they
are relatively cheap and he had a good experience with it).
Any ideas on how to solve this strange conundrum would be appreciated,
as would suggestions of where else to try.
