Has anyone here used this application that can tell me if this version is
different than the non ATI version in any way?

Thanks

I have Studio8 and the ATI version of Studio8SE. The only difference I can
see is that SE doesn't have the Extra Content disc. I think SE has all the
functionality and that the extra content disc gives you things to make the
project
look better like extra titles, menus, music clips and Hollywood FX 3-D
transitions.
I mostly make mpg2 files and store them on DVD. I'm just now wanting to make
DVD player compatible discs so haven't really gotten into that area yet.
If I've missed something important I'm sure someone will correct me. ;o)<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I am happy to meet someone that still uses Studio 8. I have been using it
for some years now with little difficulties for everything it can do. I now
use it on a P4 2.4 G 1 gig Ram system and have another install on an old P3
450 system which is giving me a capture error for some reason. I think it
might be some incompatibility with the ATI AIW 9000 but I can be sure. I
have read hundreds of post from a few years back about capture errors but
nothing that helps me. I may have removed a vital driver but have no idea
what to do next. Most likely upgrade to S9 will fix it. Otherwise I have no
reason to stop using Studio 8 but might wait for a new DL DVD.

Until a few months ago I was using an AIW128pro on my P4 2.4GHZ system. I
switched to a AIW9600XT when I put an HDTV Wonder into the system. Anyway
the AIW128pro went back into my P3 450MHZ system. This is the system I use
for the internet. so it has antivirus and other background tasks. I mostly
use this AIW to watch tv and use the pvr function on a low quality setting.
Capturing SVCD gets a 10% lost frame rate. That's too high but ATI
recommends a 500mhz system for mpg2 capture and no doubt thats with an
otherwise clean system, so that works out about right. The only cure is a
faster processor but think I'd rather put the money into another P4 system.
What error are you getting?

The latest version of Studio9 has a couple of neat features but it's more
money than I want to part with to upgrade. It really ticks me off that it's
the same money to upgrade from version 7 and 8. Too bad, the green screen
would be like playing with a magicians wand.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I have been using an ATI AIW 7500 on my P4 2.4 G W/1G Ram for almost two
years now with no difficulties. Moved the card from a 1.8 and before that it
was in the p3 450 which now has the AIW 9000. I get a 'Capture Error' and
that is the extent of the error. It does not see any input from TV or
Analog. It will capture from the Firewire ok but that is it. I can capture
fine using Virtual Dub so I know it is Studio 8 that is giving me the
problems. I have tried AVI and Mpeg. I have tried different drives that are
clean and fresh with good read/write report. I have defragged removable
drive in XP which seems to be better for that. I have removed all Pinnacle
files and reinstalled Studio 8 from Studio DV on up. I have removed all ATI
SW and reinstalled card. I have done everything but format a new drive and
start from there which is what I just might do as I have plenty of spare
drives. I was just hoping to find a softer fix.

I have made many VCDs and even many more SVCDs that look great on a 32"
Sony XBR and APEX DVD player. I think it is a waste putting analog VCR tape
content on DVD when they look as good as they will ever get on SVCD. I still
us my P3 450 to capture and edit(although slow) and burn SVCDs with no
dropped frames at all. I capture to AVI from TV with VD perfectly also.
Almost a full Gig of PC100 Ram and a fresh drive works every time.

Studio 8 did work fine in the P3 until I installed the 9000 if I remember
correctly. But it may have actually worked with the ATI 9000 in the
beginning which I think is the case as this card came with an ATI version of
Studio which I removed and replaced with the standard version that I knew
worked normally.

I hate to point out the obvious, but have you updated your S8 with the
latest patches from Pinnacle? The Pinnacle updates will apply to the
ATI S8 SE edition just fine. My ATI S8 SE is at 8.12.7 right now. S8
is one of those products where it's critically important to keep up with
updates.

BTW, there are some additional limitations to the SE version. I can't
remember exactly what they are off the top of my head, but if you search
the forums on Pinnacle's site (www.pinnaclesys.com) you can find several
threads about this.

I've also used S8 for several years, and have been fairly impressed. My
main gripe has been the perpetual audio/video sync issues for DVDs,
which they never seemed to fix. I've heard that S9 doesn't have this
problem, so I think Pinnacle would really like people to upgrade rather
than fix the S8 problem. I've also been frustrated by their lack of
compatibility with 3rd party CODECs such as DivX.

good luck,

I do have the latest version and everything works fine except for the
capture problem. I did another removal/install last night just for the fun
of it. I am installing the standard version this time with same results.
This may bug me forever and I may never give up totally on this issue. I
don't need this to work as I have an other system that is tweaked and
running fine. I must be missing a driver somewhere or something. I have
completely removed and reinstalled my ATI 9000 along will all gfx files and
purged system of all Pinnacle files many times. Tonight I will replace the
9000 with a 7500 and see if that does anything.

I am pretty sure the sync problem has been fixed. I have recently
captured a full length move from VCR to HDD and burned to DVD with perfect
sync to the end. I have never used DivX so I am not sure what you mean. Do
you mean that you cannot output a movie to DivX because it seems from what I
see this CAN be done. I just opened S8 and went to 'Make AVI' and
'Compression' and I see several DivX options. Explain to me the usefulness
of this anyway. I must be missing something as I just watch DVDs and TV
movies. If I want to save any I copy the DVD.

I will eventually get S9 I guess. I still have a few unanswered questions
and S8 and Hollywood XF Pro work great. I am afraid the home made
transitions library I have will not be upward compatible. Have you done
anything with HFX?
