Hi all

I am running Abit Kr7a with AMD 1700 CPU and 1 GB Memory. I use
photoshop and Adobe premier occasionally. Now I want to upgrade to
something better, but using my Hard Drives, TV Card, Lan Card and
Matrox Grafic Card from my old mobo. I like to stick to ATA though as
I can not afford two hard drives right now.

I do not want top of the range Mobo and CPU, which I can not afford.
Something cheaper but very stable combination.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Limiting yourself to using an AGP card will greatly effect your upgrade.
If you stick with an AMD processor, I think the farthest you will be
able to upgrade will be to socket 939, and even then you will be quite
limited on your board selection. Socket 939 boards are already being
phased out for socket AM2.

Also, your memory will be limited to DDR which has gone up in price over
DDR2. I would seriously rethink keeping the video card. Many of the
newest motherboards still support ATA, or you can use an add on card.

I don't know what model video card you have, but there is more than
likely an inexpensive PCIe card that will out perform it. Probably the
best to wait until you can afford the PCIe video card.

No, they make several AM2 boards that have AGP slots still. this looks
like a decent one.

I've got a couple of Geforce 6100 AM2 boards that I watch HDTV on using
the onboard video. Works fine. Almost everyone makes 6100 MB's in all
sizes.

My bad. I just glanced at Abit's site and did not see an AGP AM2 board.
I think I would still go your route with the onboard and save my money
for a PCIe card. The ability to upgrade in the future will be much
better, but that depends on the OP's desire to keep his original card.

Thanks all for your suggestions. The idea of using Matrox card etc.
was to minimize the expenses. But as some good folks suggested, it is
better to find a m/board with onboard Video. But I do not know which
is a better proposition, on board Video or separate Video Card. But I
still wants to retain my ATA Hard Disks because of the huge DATA I
have on them.
