Blackmore,

Having done some searching on this topic in the past for my KVM, I found
the following restrictions:

- cable components (quality and thickness of each components)
- shielding quality
- video signal (resolution and frequency)

all affect the length of the video cable signal. The general rule of
thumb is you want a very thick video cable and that you have to be
within bounds of the general video cable maximum signal capacity. ie,
for my 1600x1050 resolution LCD, I had to settle at 60 Hz refresh rate
for my video cable at 5M length.

Am sure a cable engineer can point to more specific data but I am unsure
you'll be able to interpret it or even want to delve into it.

This wevbsite gives some hints on a high level:
http://www.scala.com/hardware/dvi-vga-cable.html

This website claims to have very good specs:

For your specific need of 5 meter, as long as you have a very thick
shielded svga/vga cable, you should be fine.
