| I have a problem with my sy-k7v dragon plus, can be running for two hours or
more and then you can hear a sound coming from the board when you page up
and down and then if you give it a little work to do it will just switch
off, and have to switch mains off and on to get it to turn on again. I have
replaced psu with a Q-TEC 400W but no change can some one help me please.

Sounds like it could be a video card issue.
Open your BIOS and check your settings.
Is your board overclocked? Turbo mode? Fast Mode?
What OS are you using, what video card?

I don't have a Soyo K7V mine is a Soyo KT400 Lite, so the Bios may be
different.
Your findings supports my suggestion even more, that the video card may be
the root.
1. Were you able to check the BIOS and see that the video settings are
correct.
Is your AGP performance set to normal.
Is there any voltage changes.
Is your Dram:PCI clock set to Spd:66:33?
2. Contact the video card company and have them verify the ram chips. What
card has 256 chips? and more than 1?
I had a case where I purchased the video card with the extra ram. When my
card started to foul, about 1 year later I contacted the manufacturer. They
were prepared to take the card back and asked me for the serial numbers. It
turned out the ram was not theirs!!
I contacted the dealer but no joy, and he went out of business. In the
meantime, I ran the video card without the ram and I haven't had an issue
yet. Card still runs today, (I also felt the card improved in performance,
perhaps the ram wasn't compatible)
3. Do you have another video card to try this with? Or borrow a friends.
Hope this works for you.

My apologies for missing that in your post.
Since the Ram only temporarily solved the problem, it could be a heat
related, or another device.
Try to minimize your devices by pulling out everthing but the video card,
hardrives etc. and disabling the internal devices on the board. If the
problem persists then disconnect your hardrives and boot with a floppy.
Once you get it to run fully, turn on those devices to see which is the
problem. This might be a device, or cable, or loose connection.
Let me know how it goes.

This also could be related to your Operating System API settings.
Change or defeat those and see what happens. If nothing solved there
how about trying to reset you BIOS to default or non-optimized
settings.
I'm also assuming you have physically inspected the motherboard for
signs of problems...leaky capacitors, etc. Just a thought.

I concur.....check the capacitors on the MB and video card for bulging,
leaking, popped, etc.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Sy-k7v Dragon plus |
