I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R motherboard with 6600 core 2 processor.
System won't boot. Cooling fan on cpu runs for about half second then cuts
out (cycle repeats after few seconds). Tried removing everything except
ram and cpu same result. I suspect its a cpu fault would you agree?

Had the exact same problem with a GA-P35-DQ6. System ran OK for about
12 hours then wouldn't start the next morning with the exact symptoms
you describe. Processor is quad 6600. Pulled video and ram and got
the same results. Didn't have a replacement processor to test. I
assumed it was the mobo and I'm now waiting for an RMA. I'll post
back (probably next week sometime) when I get the mobo back. You do
the same if you come up with anything.

BTW, I didn't get any beep codes either, how about you?

Could be the PSU

If the load presented by the CPU/motherboard/RAM causes the overload to
trip in the PSU (because the PSU is faulty) you will probably get the
same symptoms.

If the PSU has an automatic reset, the cycle will go on.

It could be the CPU or Motherboard causing a "real" overload of the PSU,
or the PSU is on the way out.

In my case, I was able to swap out the PSU for a known good 800 watt
and still had the same symptoms. Could still be the OP's problem
though.

I had this problem with a GA-P35C-DS3R mobo I recently put together,
exact same symptoms. Called GB support (good support, by the way) and
here's what happened.

Check your RAM, is the voltage > 1.8? If yes the stock voltage from
the mobo's regulated supply won't cut it. I had 4GB of Kingston DDR2
RAM which required 2V. Open up the case and pull out all of the sticks
except the one in the lowest number slot. Then start it up. This
should get you to the BIOS. Set the RAM voltage to +0.2V (over the base
1.8V). shut down, insert the rest of the RAM and restart. The
important clue in this situation is that the CPU power fan twitched, the
CPU isn't warm enough to make it run when you start up.

Good luck, this worked for me.

I have a similar problem, GA-G33M-DS2R MB, Intel Q6600 processor, 600W
power supply, 2 sticks of 1GB RAM that want 2V each. My problem is that
even with only one stick of RAM in, the video doesn't come up, so I
can't get to the BIOS to set the RAM voltage up. I'm not getting any
beep codes, although the CPU fan comes on a bit after the main system
power does and stays on. Any suggestions?
