Post subject: Upgrading k7s5a motherboard and cpu
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>elitegroup (more info?)

I've been wanting to upgrade my cpu for a bit so this past weekend i
went and got a xp 2400+ to upgrade my 750 duron. They had a deal at
fry's for the 2400+ and ecs k7s5a pro motherboard for only $90 so I
got that. Now I want to switch out my old k7s5a board for the pro
one. I know that its highly recommended that you should reinstall
your os when changing motherboards but I would really not wish to do
that. I figure it might not be too bad since both boards are almost
identical. Has anyone else switched out motherboards successfully or
have any suggestions on what I should do?

TIA
JP

I have switched motherboards with no problems at all and i switched from mso
mobos to the k series and gigabytes. i also have put my HD into a few other
pcs with the same stuff i had on originally and still no problems.
This is not to say you won't have any problems back up any stuff you feel
you need to and give it a try. you may need your XP disk to install any new
components your new mobo may use.

Just swap the board and if required apply the newer mother board
drives.Any problems and run the XP Cdrom disk repair options.
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm" target="_blank">http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm</a>
and set BIOS settings to suit.Clear CMOS whilst board is not in situ.
