I have a self-built computer based on an Asus P5B Deluxe board running
WinXP Pro. 2GB Kingston memory.
When I write to a CD, everything works fine until I try to close
whatever program I was using. Then the computer freezes and I have to
hard shut it down.
I've tried using Nero, Easy Media Creator and
Windows Media Player and the same thing happens with all those
programs. I've tried connecting the drive to different IDE channels.
I've tried a different drive. I've tested both drives in other
computers and they work fine. I checked the drivers for the drives,
I've tried closing as many background programs as I can before trying
a write, I tried defragging, I tried disabling CD Audio and nothing
has made a difference. The drives are a Sony and a Plextor,
both relatively new. The CDs come out fine but the computer freezes
after the write is finished.
I can't think of anything else to try. The computer works perfectly
in every other way as far as I can tell. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. I originally posted this to alt.comp.hardware and got
some suggestions, but thought I'd try this group.
