This Asus P4T will not power on. Intel sent me another processor and it
still won't power on. I already tried 3 power supplies. The power supplies
were tested before I brought them home. The green LED on the board is lit
so its getting power. Everything is disconnected from the motherboard and
still nothing.
It cant be the power switch, I disconnected the switch and used a
screwdriver the make contact with the pins and still NOTHING. Did Intel send
me a bad processor? Is this motherboard dead?

thanks

I think you're right. It's now powering on intermittently.
I give up, its going in the dumpster. What the fuck happened? I thought Asus
was the best mobo manufacturer and this thing died after only 2 and a half
years. I see why the warranty is only 2 years.
Looks like I got fucked. I will never buy another Asus mobo after this shit

Lol I love it when people say that. Its SUCH an ignorant comment. It's
kind of like going to your cupboard opening it up, pulling out the bread and
seeing mold then saying "WTF this bread is only 5 days old, I am never gonna
buy bread again!" I mean the manufacturer COULDN'T possibly put out ANY
faulty boards right? Electronics die every day, it happens. I mean its not
like ASUS is known for putting out shit boards, is one bad experience worth
condemning a whole line?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Then you would be foolish because Asus is one of the top manufacturers.
Sometimes shit happens, this time it happened to you.

Maybe you scratched it replacing the processor, it happens.

Where they NAME-BRAND and appropriate for their labed wattage?

If not, or if original wasn't, then there's the likely problem.

What exactly does "tested" mean?

EVERYTHING?
No wonder you're getting nothing.

Insufficient detail.
Instead of comprehensively listing all measures taken you instead
listed only assumptions. Perhaps you have thoroughly troubleshot
this, but you have not provided this detail. We could list 100's
of possilbilities, but that's not an efficient use of usenet.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Good by, please don't comeback when/if your new board dies. At work I
have some Bay -> Nortel routers that have been up and running everyday
for probably over 10 years while some of the Cisco routers haven't
survived a year. Does that mean that Cisco stuff is crap? Or does it
mean that some things fail before others?

After working on computers for over 10 years I've seen equipment that
died during manufacturing to equipment that was working before I
started in computers and are still working. All equipment will die at
one time or another. I'm sure if you check the NG's for the other mobo
mfg's you will fine that they have boards that have died within 2.5
years of use.

Thanks for trolling by, but you're quite wrong.
Asus is not immune to bugs or defects, but among all major
manufacturers they have consistently set a standard for others, a
standard only rivaled by (previous) Intel motherboards with
lesser features.

If you're never seen a failure in < 2 years, it's not proof that
Asus is crap, but rather that you've been quite lucky, or dealt
with very few systems. Unlike many manufacturers, Asus builds
boards for longer term service. If yours failed in 2 years it's
most likely the failure was due to failure mechanism outside of
Asus control.

Determine EXACT failure point and then get back to us about who
was to blame. Asus does not make the power supply, chipset,
chips, nor original bios code. Of all potential failure points,
Asus has historically built boards as good or better than
competitors, done what they can to build decent products.

Perhaps the better question is, if Asus now falls below "your"
quality standards, who do you presume builds a better product?

It's certainly not ECS/PCChips/Matsonic/et al., DFI, Tyan,
Biostar, Chaintech, Epox, Jetway, Soyo, Leadtek, Shuttle, Syntax,
Soltek, or any lessor known brands. I'm NOT knocking ALL of
those brands, but relative to Asus, they all make certain
compromises. Abit, Gigabyte, MSI, and AOpen are closer to Asus
quality, and on particular boards, may beat Asus, but on average,
I'd choose Asus over any other brand, and have... Of the 4
systems I use at home most often, 3 are made by Asus:

A7N8X, A7N266-VM, A7V333
All 3 boards have been overclocked to their limit, tweaked,
modded, customized and perverted in ways never imagined by Asus,
and they just keep on going.

The only problem I had recently was when I took an A7V333,
completely submersed it in detergent solution and scrubbed it
clean (board came from owner who HEAVILY smoked). I'd removed
battery but not bios chip, so after board had dried I had to
reflash bios chip... board is still rock-solid even for a VIA
chipset... For all the Via bashing I've seen in recent years,
boards based on their chipsets can be quite stable if properly
designed, set up properly, without other devices that are known
to cause problems in themselves. That's not an endorsement of
Via though, it's a budget solution that can work fine but not the
way to spend a lot of $$$$ for a high-performance system, rather
an observation of myths long-since passed.

In summary, if tomorrow I had to randomly choose a manufacturer
for my next "mission critical" PC system mainboard, Asus would be
at the top of the list. They are sometimes pretty expensive
though, I could understand picking MSI or Gigabyte instead for
cost reasons but not for any other reason.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I don't have that particular board, it could be the worst thing
every made, the epitome of crap,

BUT,

Asus makes some of the best boards of all manufacturers.
If you choose to blame Asus and avoid their products, so be it,
but years of experience tells me that it's your loss, not Asus'.

My most mission critical PC has an Asus board in it and I
wouldn't have it any other way. It has thosands of $$$$ worth of
data on it and I'd gladly spend twice as much on a better board
if there were anything better than Asus. Aside from server
boards, there isn't.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Just wondering how you got Intel to send you a processor directly... vice a
retailer or reseller?
