I'd like to buy a wireless keyboard, but I've never seen one before and
I have no clue about their capabilities. Do they need to be within
line-of-sight of the computer? Ideally, I'd like to put mine about 4
feet away from the computer on the other side of a thick wooden desk.
Is that feasible? Do I need anything more than a USB port on my
computer?

The devices don't have to be in a line of sight because the communication is
done with radiowaves.
With a wireless keyboard (and mouse for that matter), you get a radiowave
receiver which you plug into your ps/2 keyboard (and mouse) connectors of
your mobo. Don't know about USB, my keyboard (logitech wireless desktop) had
two ps/2-to-usb connectors but I didn't use them.

regards,
Marcel

Marcel,

Thanks! None of the keyboard vendors bother to explain that.

Do Not Buy Any Microsoft keyboards!

Do a google search, "microsoft wireless keyboard doesn't work" read and
weep. Google search newsgroups too and you'll find a thousand more
people with MS wireless keyboard issues and you'll also see how poorly
MS supports it's products too. Buy Logitech, anything but MS!
