I am considering upgrading to a camera with 4 Mp and 10x zoom. I will use
the camera for wildlife and general outdoor pictures, usually without a
tripod. I am thinking of buying the Oly C-750UZ or Panasonic DMC-FZ10 which
uses a stabilizing circuitry to help defeat jitters. I am using an A20 with
3x optical which gives satisfactory results but was wondering if going out
beyond 6x would be practical when handheld.
Any suggestions regarding these or other zoom cameras would be appreciated.

You will need a steady hand or fast shutter speed. I've played with the Oly
and forgot how heavy it is...the heavier the better as it helps to eliminate
camera shake. I do like it though. (get the 5Mp mode) I think my daughter's
Canon Xthus, with it's all metal body is better for weight.
Fugi does a 6 x zoom, and you can get adaptor Lenses for the Canon A80 to
take it to around 200mm tele. The Oly is approx 380mm at 10z zoom. I like
both. Advanage of the Canon is that it is an optical viewfinder and thus is
better in low-light conditions. But its adaptor lenses are not zoom, just
act as tele.

Canon G5 is another good cam. Or spend a heap and get the Canon EOS digital
series, expensive but I think they take regular 35mm lenses.

Go with image stabilization, a must for zoom.
I have the Oly C-2100 and love it.

It is almost impossible to film animals with a tripod unless it at a
feeder.
They move to quick.

Happy Thanksgiving

With 6x or 10 x, I'd recommend a monopod. That's a tripod with one
leg. It is fast and effective and you won't miss a shot with it like
you would with a tripod.

Give some consideration to the Canon dRebel with a 75-300mm Image Stabilized
telephoto. This is a remarkable piece of glass which gives an equivalent
480mm. With a 2X extender that would be 960mm. I've seen some incredible
photos of raptors taken with this combination.

Hi

I was also very interested in the Panasonic range as they use Leica
Lenses. BUT BEWARE!! They and the Leica equivalent (albeit similar
spec for 2x the price!) are flawed at handling low light levels...

A brilliant webpage for getting some excellent impartial reviews is

Go and have a look first...
