hi there,
currently have a machine in front of me
an7, 2500xp barton, 512mb mushkin pc3200, 2 sata seagate hd,
assembled, installed XP pro. pressed f6, when needed to, installed great,
restarted, and pc boots up all the stuff at the beginning, see the sata rom
load, and to a black screen,
i assume im gettin this problem because for the 1st boot device (2nd and
3rd) there is NO option for sata (on my abit nf7-s i have that option)
will a bios update remedy this? or have i a bigger problem then i though?
thank you
Figurt

No you don't have a BIG problem, read the headers for the last four
weeks with "NF7 & SATA" in them, then come back here & ask, there
are lots of people ...... try one called chip

ooops, sorry mate, I read the " on my abit nf7-s i " bit below and in
my hurry to get to work did not read the whole thing.

You would be better served by someone with an AN7, I'm sure someone
will come along and offer help.

I notice that the AN7 BIOS14 amongst other things :

- updates the Si 3112 controller ROM v.4.2.43. ,and
- adds the SATA ROM control option.

Do you have PATA drives in the machine alongside SATA's, there was a
problem booting into the O/S with BIOS12. Try it without PATA's !

What BIOS are you on?, maybe you need to flash it to BIOS14, the ROM
file, FlashMenu, revision history, and instructions are here:

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/bios.php?categories=1&model=158" target="_blank">http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/bios.php?categories=1&model=158</a>
and
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.abit-usa.com/downloads/bioshelp.php" target="_blank">http://www.abit-usa.com/downloads/bioshelp.php</a>

If you use a floppy make sure the directory structure of the floppy is
correct, and wether FlashMenu or floppy make sure youpull the CCMOS
jumper 10 mins after switching off and disconnecting from the mains.

Hope this helps, if I'm worng someone jump in and put me right.

there is no sata raid boot option here, it's in another part of the bios
setup
and it's used to chose either normal ide drive or sata, since you only have
sata drives the system will boot from these.

Did u install the sataraid xp driver if so boot to safe mode and uninstall,
it usually starts up with xp by default
I seen somewhere this is not really needed and can cause problems

Also try bios 1.4 changes the raid rom and other stuff

update on the situation

rebuilt the machine, same problem,
install xp, asks for sata drivers, restart, black screen after verfying dmi
pool ( ibelieve) thats it.
problem is the fact that windows xp doesnt seem to want to carry on the xp
installation, scrapped raid runs fine, but still trying to remedy the
situation,

thank you once again for all your ideas
