Hi,
I've been to the Tyan site and saw reference to this newsgroup. I hope
someone can help. I'm trying to add a cd-rom to an older machine. (It had
none when I got it.) As near as I can tell, the board is a Tomcat i810,
model S 2054, but not quite. The map in the manual is just a little
different than what I have. The audio is an integrated AC'97 Audio Codec. My
question: Where does the audio cable from the cd-rom connect to the board?
There is no reference in the manual. It's a PIII with a slightly different
configuration than what's shown in the manual.
Thanks,
jll

That should be a 4-pin audio connector on the board. Do you see a
four-pin header with a black shroud that looks like it should fit your
CD-ROM audio cable?

Take care that the jack of the CD-ROM audio cable matches the board
header. Otherwise you may need a different cable with the right jack.

Thanks for the response. I saw that 4-pin connector on the board. I hooked
it to my cd-rom and it is working. I have another problem. Why can't I get
the volume or mixer icon in my systray? When I attempt to activate them thru
control panel/ multimedia, there is no option active to do so. Everything is
sort of grayed out. Can you help me with that one?
Thanks,
jll

This condition is usually symptomatic of the audio drivers not being
correctly installed. Try uninstalling/reinstalling them and see if that
corrects the problem.

Eric,
Thanks for the reply. I got the thing straightened out by trial and error.
It took a combonation of my integrated sound driver and one from M$ called
MPU-401 Compatible, whatever that is, and now it's music to my ears.
Thanks,
jll
