Ok.
I'm looking for a new LCD monitor.
I'd like to end up with a 21" as the price difference between the
21" screens and 20" screens isn't that much currently, but I'm not
finding much in the way of 21" screens.
The panel must run 1600x1200 and will be used for both work
(programming, mostly) and gaming.
I've tried out a Viewsonic VP211b, but the motion blur was bad in
many cases (especially dealing with the color red). I ended up
returning the panel due to bad pixels but the retailer didn't have any
more in stock, so I got a refund and am now looking for a better
panel.
Another option I'm considering is getting a fairly cheap panel now
(like, a Planar PL201M) and buying another one next year when
better 21" panels are availible. This is reasonable to me as I use
a dual monitor desktop, and I'd be running the 20" with a 17" lcd
panel now, and bump the 17" panel to a spare system and run
21"/20" when I upgrade next year.
For reference, I'm currently using a Sony SDM-X72 17" panel
and would be very happy with a panel of the same response time
as it for gaming. I'd just go ahead and grab the Sony SDM-X202,
but I'm hesitant after getting the VP211b and being extremely
dissapointed that it uses a totally different panel technology from the
20" in the same series.
What I've considered:
Viewsonic VP211b: Excellent feature set, nice picture for work, lacking
for gaming.
Sony SDM-X202: I love my SDM-X72, but after the issue with
Viewsonic I'm hesitant to pick one up without assurance that the quality
is similiar to the SDM-X72.
NEC LCD2080UX: I've heard that this is a good panel for what I need it
for from posting on the newsgroup, but in one of the very few reviews I've
seen for it, it wasn't reviewed very highly.
Samsung 213T: As best as I can tell, identical to the VP211b.
Planar PL210M: Cheap, appears to be a solid panel.
Thanks in advance for any help.
