hello all,

has anyone ever found a workaround for booting an asus p2b (rev 1.10)
without a keyboard? i've got one acting as a "radio-pod" downstairs
and i'd like to do without the keyboard; it doesn't seem to boot
without it. maybe just a plugged in connection without a keyboard...
anyone have any ideas?

thx.

What OS are you trying to boot? If Windows, I think only server versions allow
the equivalent of console-less booting.

But in any case, check the bios and see if there's an "ignore all keyboard
errors" setting. Regardless of OS, you're going to need the bios to not stop
on a missing keyboard error...

I am under the impression that P2B series boards will boot without a
keyboard by default - certainly my P2B-S-based file server has run for
years without a keyboard, and one of my kids P2B-AE systems has an
annoying habit of occasionally not detecting it's keyboard but you don't
know that until Windows has booted and you can't log on...

Mind you, I don't have a 'vanilla' P2B here to test. What does yours say
if you boot it with monitor but no keyboard?

It's easy to remove the "guts" from a keyboard and make a tiny "keyboard
simulator" that you plug into the keyboard port. That may be the
easiest way to do this. I've seen such devices made commercially, but
they are not easy to find.

Where is it stalling without it? If it's at the BIOS, there should be a
setting like "Halt On Disk/Key" that you should be able to change to
make it ignore keyboard errors.

solutioned.

took off keyboard and changed option in bios to not stop on keyboard
error.

thanks for making me think this was possible. i had been living with
this "keyboard truth" for a while now. wonder how many of my other
suppositions about life and death need to be looked at.
