I've got a G7. I carry it in my coat pocket at all times (well,
except in 96 degree weather, when I don't carry a coat). With the
zoom and image stabilization, it has better resolution than my eyes.
At first I couldn't take pictures of flying swallows with it. But
turns out I can, if I use the viewfinder rather than the LCD. I still
can't get them in focus. I can get ants in focus though, see the
hairs on their backs. Trick there is to use macro and not zoom at
all. It often chooses to focus on the ground rather than the ant
though. And of course it does well on nonchallenging things like
children and flowers and sunsets.
