Hi,

If you have an asus motherboard and u get this error:

cmos checksum failed resetting to defaults.

It might by caused by a samsung spinpoint harddrive.
Make a change in the bios and save after replacing the hard drive.

What model asus, and what exact model samsung drive? Did you get the
latest bios? If there is an incompatibility, a bios upgrade may help.

If you identify a hardware incomptatbility, that a bios upgrade does
not cure, write asus an email with as much detail as possible.

It is also a possibility you have a bad hard drive OR board.

What evidence do you have for that last bit ?

Its MUCH more likely to just be a cmos battery that needs replacing.

No point in replacing the hard drive, you replace the cmos battery.

The shop gave me another Asus P5V-VM DH motherboard, it didnt help
System works fine with now with a maxtor harddrive instead of the
Samsung.spinpoint SP2504C

There are some bios updates at Asus but they dont mention anything about
cmos checksum errors. And I am happy the system is working now so I wont try
a flash bios.

Harddrive does get recognized properly in setup, could still be a hardware
problem but I dont have another Sata II system to test it..
