Post subject: new computer build - advice
Archived from groups: alt>comp>hardware>pc-homebuilt (more info?)

Hi,
I have just put together a computer, I used an asus mobo (used)ASV - E 8E
(AMD Skt 939), a new amd 64x2 (new), an asus En6600-TD 256Mb GeForce DDR PCI
Express graphics card (used).

Ok I have assembled the computer, when I switch it on everyting seem to
start running, ie HDD, Cpu Fan, Chasis Fan, graphics card built in fan, but
all I get is not signal to the monitor, check the cable. So can't check the
POST

Ok, what do I do to check the Mobo, and the Graphics card, as they could be
faulty.
Bought new Ram, new AMD64x2 Skt 939, New CD Rom etc

your advice and help appreciated
Thankyou and Regards
Bob

The A8V-E SE has two power connectors. There is a a 24 pin in the lower right
of that picture (can be used with a 20 pin power supply, if necessary). There
is also a 4 pin connector, to the left of the three green coils. That 2x2 ATX12V
connector powers the processor. (Verify, that the 2x2 you are using, has two yellow
wires and two black wires.) Once you plug in the 2x2, you should get some
video output.

I don't think that video card uses an extra power connector, so it probably
isn't a video card problem. Some video cards, have an extra connector on the
end of the card. On some cards, you can see copper pads on the PCB, for inclusion
of a connector, but no connector soldered in place. In that case, the card
is probably getting the power through the slot pins.

HTH,
Paul
