Is 75 deg C hot for the core of a 7950 gt ? the slow down threshold is shown
as 130 deg C can it really run this hot??

It's on the hot side, but I wouldn't panic until 90C. If you can get
your system running with a lower ambient temp first (review your
airflow, check fans, active flow through case, etc), then you'll be
better off gaging whether it's the card at fault.

I do know the 7900 series had a mediocre HSF though. Many people
complain about it (noisy, hot). You might want to look into a Zalman
cooler or any other good brand. You won't need to dissipate as much
heat as a 8800GT or GTX, but many of those coolers would work as well.
The Thermaltake DuoOrb has been reported to drop temps on a 7950GT
considerably.

Make sure you get enough RAM heatsinks for whatever you buy. Some don't
come with them. And you'll need to cover the PCIE bridge chip if there
is one.

Is that 75 under load or idle? 75 under load isn't bad at all, 75 under
idle is CRAZY high.

FYI, I had a PNY 7950GT running 575/1550 that ran 59/94 under idle/load
with the stock heatsink.

I just installed a DuOrb and now run 49/64... and that's with the DuOrb
running on only 60% fan speed...

Venger
P.S. Note - the DuOrb will not mount without slightly bending the right
hand orb up just a bit to clear the surface mount components on the
7950GT, at least on mine...

Nope. 75 deg C is not really a cause for concern for any modern GPU.

Briefly, yes. Bear in mind the slow down limit was put in to protect the
card against "uncontained" cooling system failures, such as an obstructed
fan or detached heat sink. The card is not expected to reach 130 C under
normal use.
