Post subject: Question about cpu cooler
Archived from groups: alt>comp>hardware>overclocking (more info?)

Hi guys!

First of all... my gear:
Case: Lian Li PC-V2000
Mobo: P5AD2 Premium
CPU: Intel 3.4 sock775 Prescott
CPU-cooler: Thermaltake 512 Jungle (this one can make some SERIOUS noise!)
Thermal paste: ArcticSilver 5 - applied according "to the book"
GfxCrd: Asus EAX800XT-PE - standard cooling

My temperatures are:
CPU: 36C (idle) - 58-62C (load) (are these normal?)
Mobo: 32C (idle) - about 38 (load) (are these normal?)
Room temp: around 21C

The first funny thing is the gfxcrd temps. When idle the GPU is around 51C
and the RAM around 42...BUT the very second I start up Asus SmartDoctor the
GPU temp drops to 41C. It is not something which happens over a few
minutes - it happens right away. The fan speed does NOT change - according
to Everest Home - so I don't think it is a matter of fan-control profiles.
And after all that would not change the temp readings that fast. But
anyway... the fun doesn't end here... Before starting SmartDoctor the
temperature rises to about 61C (GPU) but with SmartDoctor started it rises
to >68C.

Does any of u guys know what is going on - and what are the normal
temperatures for both the CPU and GPU?

Another question... I'm thinking about replacing my noisy (47dB) Thermaltake
Jungle 512 with a Zalman 7700 CU but I've noticed that it requires a 14mm
gap from the edge of the mobo and to the case. In my Lian Li case the mobo
is "upside down" so the gap is only about 3-4mm which probably makes it
impossible for me to install the Zalman cooler. Does any of u guys know any
good alternatives - maybe even with experience from a similar setup?

T.I.A.
