hello,
MB: abit KN8 SLI
CPU: AMD 3800+ Venice (single)
RAM: OCZ platinum PC-3200 2x512 at 2-3-2-5
VIDEO: Asus GeForce EN6800 pci-x
I ran this at default settings for a few days with openSuSE 10.2 x86_64
all the utilities reported ridiculously low cpu temp: 20 C
the bios also says it never gets past 30 C. When I touch the stock HS it
never gets close to warm to the touch.
Then after an OC from 2.4 Ghz to 2.7 Ghz, the temp barely increased 1 or 2
degrees C on average.
Is this too good to be true?

I'd say so. Are you sure you were reading the proper sensors? Are you sure
your sensors.conf is configured properly? AFAIK, all the utils use
lm_sensors for info. If it's not set up properly, all utils are wrong.
What do you get with sensors? And are you sure you aren't using Cool n
Quiet, which lowers voltage and cpu speed?

nice scaling going on there. We seem to have the same processor except
yours is Dual core (you have two).
I'm getting the same behavior in openSuSE 10.2 and FC6 (both x86_64) so I
suspect my bios is the trouble.
My abit k8n-sli is 2 bios versions behind (2.2). Should I update it?
Have you done any thing special with your setup (like custom bios) to
get the scaling working?

my bios is kn815, while the latest is kn819

I can get the powersaved service to start if I force-load a cpufreq module

the latest bios fixed the trouble!
I don't have a Win installation so I loaded the bios files on a USB flash,
then booted into a Win98 boot disk. I was able to change drive into the
flash and execute runme.bat from there.
