Did i crush my 7950 Gt GPU core !!!!!

Mobo is Gigabyte 965p DS3.

I'am just haveing much rouble with it now after i replaced the stock
cooler with a NV Silencer 5 Rev 3. It does not state its compatible
with it but i wanted something for my HTPC that would blow the aout
the back and i read that someone put one on without problem.

The problem is now the PC boots everytime i wake up without a problem
and maybe 2 times in a row if i restart, but after that its prettry
random and mostly doe snot work.

It boots up like a matrix thing with curruption in rows comign down
the screen onthe bios boot up screen and the windows boot screen and
when i get into windows the icons on the taskbar are currpted.

If i try to run a game or anything the whole pc juts crashes and i get
a blue screen and the BSOD is currpted so you can't read it.

But if it boots without the currption everything is sweet, I can run
my e6400 @ 3.3ghz fine and run Prime95 for 9 hours on both cores with
no errorss Smile

I was thinkingif this would be a NTFS problem, but i'am not sure when
NTFS kicks in. I hope this is the problem as a Fat32 reinstall is all
thats needed.

Thanks.

A newsgroup for display adapters ( alt.comp.periphs.videocard.nvidia , for
example) might get you more help.

What 'facts' you do include in your post don't make much sense.
#1. If you did indeed 'crush' your GPU, the result would be no display at
all.
#2. NTFS is a file system, and has nothing at all to do with video display.
#3. Prime95 is worthless as a test of a display adapter since it is CPU
intensive, and makes almost the lightest possible use of a display adapter
and especially doesn't use 3D acceleration.

Just guessing, but my suggestion is that you check the temperature of your
GPU for overheating (which could certainly cause the symptoms you stated.
You might also check for proper installation of the display adaptor in the
motherboard socket and proper connection of power to the display adaptor.

Proper installation of a heatsink requires smooth, flat surfaces that are
exactly parallel to each other and thermal compound applied correctly.
Somehow you did not get a proper installation of the new heatsink; either
because of incompatible surfaces, improper amount or application of thermal
compound, or improper mechanical contact. By the way, the fan(s) on the new
heatsink are turning, right?

"Any other suggestions?"
Not until after you try the first suggestions and report the results.

[And check the 12 VDC connections to the display adapter, NOT the 'power
cord.]

If you crushed the core the card wouldn't work at all.

What's the "aout"? Did you mean "blow the AIR OUT"???

What do you mean it "boots everytime i wake up"? It should boot fine
without
a problem, that means it's OK. You should be able to boot it when you
wake
up... What? Do you wake up at random? I'm sorry but your wording does
not
make much sense. Is it rebooting itself at random???

What do you mean, a "matrix thing" with rows coming down? Do you mean
it
displays random ASCII characters? Vertical lines at the top of your
screen?
Do they scroll down?

NTFS is a file system and therefore it's "kicked in" all the time. The
video
card is the thing you should be focusing on, not the hard disk. The
problem
(whatever it is) started after you did something to the video card, so
you
should probably concentrate on that first. But I don't think you
crushed
the core, that's for sure.

I put the stock GPU cooler on and it seems fine now. It randomly shows
the curuption but a few reboots and it works. I have changed a dew
things int he bios related to video and increased voltages and it
seems stable now.

I am not sure whats going on with the cooler as it cools much better
than the Stock coole ri have on it now. 60c stock 50c Nv silencer.
Must be something and all i can think of is a temp problem causing the
currption. That would explain why when i wake up and turn the PC on it
always worked, but if i rebooted the pc it would never work.

Can't explain the 50c temp in the Nvidia drivers though. Then again it
might be the memory chips overheating or the realy BAD surface on the
NV silencer. Thats why i'am going to lapp it and see if that helps
any.

Also take off the pads it has on the memmory areas and put my own
double sided thermal tape on the memory.

Will report the failure or succsess soon Smile

Thanks all.
