go to <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.asus.com" target="_blank">www.asus.com</a> - motherboards- find yours under chipset 845pe (?) click
on the motherboard, then scroll down to find the QVL which will tell you
what memory Asus approves for that board

On the bottom of this page:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4pe-x/overview.htm" target="_blank">http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4pe-x/overview.htm</a>

That list is virtually worthless to use for shopping. There are
no 512MB DIMMs listed.

Your board can take one double sided (DS) DIMM at DDR400 (if you are
using a FSB800 processor). You can use one double sided and two single
sided DIMMs, or you can use three single sided DIMMs, or you can
use two double sided DIMMs (but at rates lower than DDR400).

Another QVL you can examine, is for the P4PE2-X. It uses the same
Northbridge chip, so the same list of memory should be applicable.
At least there are some components in there that you can buy.

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4pe2-x/P4PE2-X_QVL.pdf" target="_blank">http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4pe2-x/P4PE2-X_QVL.pdf</a>

To maximize the amount of memory, you could use a 1GB DIMM, but those
are not listed on the QVL. Perhaps you could phone Asus tech support
and ask them whether any 1GB DIMMs will work.
