I have a Intel Pent 111 chip that is set for 550 speed and a older SOYO
motherboard that has a top speed at either 650 or 660. I overclocked it at
605 and everything worked fine.Today I thought I would see if I could get
660 out of it and now the computer will not boot up. At first I could just
get the delete menu up but would go no farther and the monitor of course was
ok. After shutting the machine off, and then turn it back on my monitor will
not come on. Self test on the monitor says the monitor is ok, but it will
not light up. Now what do I do?
Sincerely & thanks,
Dick >> Stay informed about: Oh, oh, now what do I do/ |

HamMan's post will work too. Just thought I'd explain what's happening and
tell you some extra options:
The problem is that your system will no longer POST. The monitor is
certainly fine, just your BIOS is screwed up because it doesn't know how to
access the CPU that fast, thus the POST failure.
Other options (in addition to HamMan's, and in order of how you should do
them)
My board has an automatic clear overclock settings routine. If I hit the
reset button within 5 seconds of turning on my computer (you should wait at
least 2 before pressing it), all of the overclock settings should clear. I
have a Gigabyte GA-8SQ800 board, and I believe all gigabyte boards will do
this. Try it, it might work.
If you do not have a clear CMOS jumper (some boards don't), taking out the
battery and unplugging the case for about 5 minutes usually accomplishes the
same feat.
Try taking out everything from your motherboard. That would include your CPU
and RAM. Try to boot it up like that. Your BIOS should start complaining
about everything. Once it does, shut it down and reinstall everything.
Hopefully, the reinstallation of the hardware will cause it to go to factory
defaults for that CPU.
Good luck

Hold insert while you are turning the PC on, or find the CMOS reset jumper
on the motherboard (look in your manufacturers boolet for more info)<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Oh, oh, now what do I do/ |

You guys are the best. Thank you so much for your help. I had to remove the
battery and plug my monitor into my other video card in order for it to come
up. But it did. The most speed I can get out of it is 616. But that is ok.
That is the most I have ever gotten from this old computer, and I thank you.
Sincerely & thanks,
Dick
