I would like to install 1gig of DDR-400 but I have a quaestion :

Is it better 2 X 512 mo or 4 X 256mo ?

What is more stable and faster ? 2 or 4 banks

My mobo is a MSI 865PE NEO2 FIS2R so yes it support 4 stick

Does your mobo even support 4 sticks of DDR. Most don't.
2x512 if you have a dual channel mobo(nvidia nforce 2 or intel 865-875
chipset). 1x1024 if single channel.

If you're running an Intel board, like my Abit IC-7, four sticks is better
than two. (See the "memory holy grail" article at <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.anandtech.com" target="_blank">www.anandtech.com</a> for an
explanation.

On an AMD system with an Nvidia chipset, you need two for dual channel, but
there is no additional advantage to having more.
