Hi

I have a QSI CDRW/DVD player. When I put a dvd or cd into the drive,
it spins, the yellow light comes on. In XP's my computer screen it
does not recognize any files on the disks. When I go to a command
prompt, it says the device is not ready. However, XP's device manager
reports that it is enabled and all is well. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled the driver software. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

doug

I've got a combo DVD/CDRW drive made by Liteon and it failed in the
first month, wouldn't read DVD's but still burned cdr's ok and read
cd's fine. Got a replacement and it has been ok for the most part
except a few times the drive has become locked and inacessable for
some unknown reason. In future I would stay away from these combo
drives as they seem flaky. IMO, your drive is knackered and I would
just replace it with a DVD-RW drive. BTW, in XP you shouldn't have to
install drivers for these drives as it has it's own drivers for these
devices already, all you need to install is the burning software and
DVD player software.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
