Post subject: Any eMachines groups?
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard (more info?)

I'm troubleshooting a friend's PC, it has been terminally slow, had a
bad XP SP2 install, and too little RAM. I took care of all that (used
the restore disc to reinstall/reformat) and when I left it was running
well. Now getting reports of random freeze ups. Looking for any groups
that address these ugly machines. I'm suspecting poor on-board video,
and could probably pop in a spare PCI video card to check that way;
but wondered too about BIOS version and flashing. The eMachines site
is pretty worthless and their tech support is abyssmal (they
specifically told me to use PC133 RAM, but the machine does not run on
it unless it's also designed to underclock, the true speed is PC100).

Anyway, any pointers appreciated.

This is why I build my own machines!
