Post subject: Can't find "PCI communication device" driver - but NO MODEM INSTALLED
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard (more info?)

I've just acquired a DTK PRM-95V4 m-board, which has a VIA chipset. Nothing
is connected to the board except a hard drive, a cd-rom drive, a video
card, and a keyboard and mouse.

Yet Win98_SE keeps looking for a driver for a "PCI communications device".
The only thing I can think of which fits that description is a modem. But
there is no modem.

Sound is built in, and I think all the sound drivers are installed OK.

I have tried every driver on the install CD and Windows can't find one it
will accept.

This same drive and OS installation has been used on a couple of other
m-boards with different configurations (but still no PCI modem, just a USB
cable modem). Is there any way drivers previously installed could cause
this?

Thanks. Ken

Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

Possibly a gameport controller.
