Post subject: does firmware revision relate to cd extraction problem?
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>cd-rom (more info?)

Hi,
I have a teac cdrw524 that I run with win98se.
I've used cdex and Cool Edit pro to extract audio from CDs
with no problem, however they stopped working. The CDROM
still loads software and plays audio CDs.

Cdex and Cool edit both simply do not display the tracks
on the CD anymore. If I use Cool Edit's 'open' function and
use the cdda filter on a .cda track directly, the conversion
is completely noisy--although this has worked in the past.

There is a firmware revision for this CDROM but I was
curious if a revision would relate to this problem. If it is
not related then I'm not going to bother with it. Any clues
appreciated.

Thanks,

MB

I just want to add that Rio's MP3 extraction program still works
and shows the CD tracks in the window.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I think none of your hypothesis are right. It seem you merely have a
protected CD. Such protection may be illegal in your country, since you
may be allowed to make private copies.
