I am looking to buy a new lcd flat screen monitor (~19"), so I can get my
desk back. I am also interested in one I can watch television on. I
currently have a cable internet connection. What is the best way to go
about this (or the best television/monitor to buy)?

I have a cable modem, and I use an ATI AIW 8500, which is
connected to my Comcast digital cable box. When my wife said
she wanted a monitor like my 17" Samsung 170T, I gave her
the 170T, and bought a 210T. Now I can have a nice sized TV
viewing window, and still have plenty of space for web
surfing, usenet, etc. I also have a force feedback wheel,
and play auto sims at high res.
