I have removed a floppy drive from one computer and installed it onto
another. If I have connected it up correctly how do I get drive (a) to
appear as one of the drive letters in My Computer. I don't recall having
software for the floppy drive installation.

Any advice is most welcome.

Pat

The floppy is not plug and play. It is enabled in the BIOS.

You dont normally have to do anything, if you have got
it connected properly, it should show up automatically.

The most likely cause of it not being visible is that you havent
got it plugged in properly. Obviously if you dont have power
connected, it wont show up. If you have the ribbon cable on
wrong it may or may not depending on what you have done wrong.

Does the drive home as part of the bootup sequence ?
That behaviour is controlled by a bios setting and is one
way to check that the basics are right. If the led on the
front of the floppy drive is on all the time, the ribbon
cable is on backwards.

A few systems do have to have the drive type specified in the bios.

Yeah, that should not be required with conventional floppy drives.

Check in BIOS that floppy drive controller is enabled and that drive A
is set to correct type, probably 1.44MB if it is standard floppy (3.5 inch).
Windows will detect new hardware and install its own driver.
