Post subject: formatted computer, now can't read CDRom
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>cd-rom (more info?)

I formatted a friends computer because of a bunch of problems with it. Now
I'm trying to install XP. In DOS, I can get the floppy drive and the
harddrive, but not the CD ROM. He has two CD ROMs on the computer, both
older drives, on is a burner.
I thought I could use a standard CD Rom driver diskette to get the CD to
work (so I can load XP), but I can't get the computer to access either CD
Rom. In both cases it says "drive not accessible".

What am I doing wrong?

TIA
Rob

In the BIOS, make sure boot from has CDROM listed first.
How to get into the BIOS? Turn it on and press F8 or DEL
(look at the bottom of the screen and whatever key it states
to press to get into the setup). Then on the floppy make
sure it has the MSCDEX.EXE file. (That's a generic one that
works with all but the esoteric ones).
