I've got a new 7vm400m board running a barton 2500+ at stock speed. Under
this board, the cpu runs at approx 60c while idle, under load it easily hits
70c, and on hot days it runs up to 85c while under load. The temp is
monitored via the bios and via MBM5 (automatic wizard configuration to
detect the correct sensor/diode).

I think the temps are wrong, on the previous motherboard (MSI based) this
exact cpu would top out at 50c while under load. The diode being monitored
by bios and MBM appears to be "Sis950/ITE8705F-3 Diode". If I switch to -2
Diode, 50c is returned, -1 Diode shows 40c.

Which would the right setting to monitor?

I had the same problem with the CPU running hot, but mine was because the
heatsink wasn't seated properly. The CPU socket seems to be oddly taller on
the side causing it to sit the heatsink higher than it should and not make
good contact.
