I hardly see these mentioned though many new boards have SATA
controllers. Im sure many people still are using the old IDE drivers
with them. Though SATA drives arent as rare as they used to be , most
of the sales are usually plain old P ATA drives.

You need a dongle/adaptor for them to work with the SATA controllers.

Ive been using my regular IDE controller on my ASUS deluxe which
limits me to 4 devices. I used the Maxtor add on controller card but
that seems to have a problem with my ASUS mb.

The avg price for the adaptors seems to be around $20+ a piece - yiou
need one for each device. At Newegg they are more and the shipping to
here pushies it to around $60-70 for two.

At Ebay there are some sellers who are selling many of them they ones
I bought were the SYBA dongles - using the silicon image chips. I like
them cause they are encased in plastic not just a small circuit board
you stick on your Hard Disk.

Havent gotten them yet so I cant say if they work or not but they are
selling for around $10 about half or less than half the avg price Ive
seen.

Shipping anywhere in the US is 9 or so and each additional unit is $4
I think so factor that in if you have a cheap mom and pop store nearby
which is selling the adaptors for $35-40.

Once again I havent seen any reviews on this unit or havent used them
yet and Ive never purchased anything from this merchant - Monoprices.

Also I was about to buy a CPU over XMAS on Ebay from a different
seller of a large number of PC items - who had a "store" and claimed
to have been in business for years and years . He had tons of great
feedback. I looked at his Nov Dec sales and he had tons and tons of
angry red negative feedback from customers not getting their goods. So
any time you buy on Ebay you at risk period even if they have good
feedback.
