i've got a gt24 b2891s4h 1u barebone (dual opteron, 4 hot plug sata)
with what really appears to be a dead sata drive bay. bay #4 never
works, while bays1-3 always work regardless of how the sata cables are
hooked to the backplane and regardless of where the 4 drives are plugged
in (lots of cable & drive swapping!). all 4 drives work if the 4th
drive is plugged directly to the motherboard (of course, it doesn't fit
in the drive bay when this is done). the failure mechanism is crc
failures, timeouts, etc. at this point we believe the sata backplane is
bad, possibly the connector, possibly the pcb itself.

where can i get spare parts for a gt24? i need a replacement m1204 sata
backplane. tyan has been, uh, less than helpful.

thanks,
andrew essen

thanks, that's something i would not have thought to try. the one thing
i was thinking of trying was ditching the whole sata backplane &
directly plugging the drives to the motherboard. but then i'd lose the
hot plug-ness although i don't really need it.
