I have 2 pcs, both running WinXP, both with WD 40 gig, 7200 speed drives..
same drives.. on shutdown, one makes a neat sounds, as if to park before
shutoff, the other one does not... I'd like them to both 'park',,, advice ??
Thank you!

They're that way by design.

One drive is male...the other is female.

The female is the one making the noise when it parks! If you look
closely, you'll probably find ding marks on the drive in the front and
in the rear.

Also, the male drive will run really slow...and hardly work at
all...when there's any sporting event on TV.

Have a nice week...

I'd imagine they both park. There's a magnet assembly inside that should
move the heads to the proper position when power is removed.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Gotta have a sense of humor- weird or not! Sometimes we - at least I- tend
to take the minutiae to the highest of levels...
Now I guess I need to find a matching female drive!
