how much money should I expect to pay for a good and reliable, fast
performing 3 to 4 port 3GB/s SATA RAID controller with hardware assist?
which one is good?

I have both PCI Express 16 and 2x I don't need the enterprise class unless
is really inexpensive.

when I say fast, high performance, it must be significantly better then the
built-in one for Asus A8N-VM CSM to make it worthwhile for me to shell out
the money, extra reliability also helps. It should work with XP, XP64 and
windows 2003 - hate to see unwritten cache for hard drives to be lost on
shutdown

XP64 is relatively new and as such many cards do not as yet support it, your
choice therefore may be limited.
I'm using an Adaptec pci card, had no complaints and received instant tech
support when I had a problem.(caused by psu)
The card had a retail price of $350, though purchased new, via Ebay for
about $100
