I'm stuck... Building a scratch system (I've done this without much
problems several times before) and am having a hell of a time getting
the video to work:
* AMD Athlon XP 2700+, 333MHz FSB
* ASRock "K7Upgrade-880" VIA KT880 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket
A CPU
* ATI RADEON 9200SE Video Card 8X AGP, Model "R9200SE-DT"
* DDR RAM 1GB|PDP 1-128x64 PC2700
I've made sure the FSB jumpers are set at 333 and double-checked the
asrocks website to make sure that hadn't changed.
I've reseated everything -- time and time again and tried booting with
the min hardware attached. I've moved RAM to all of the slots and
tried known good ram from an existing machine. I've also pulled a
known good video card and it fails in the build computer too. I get
power to the periphials (but never hear the CMOS "Beep".
The MB is said to support both 8x and 4x AGP (1.5v).
I'm struggling for what I missed. I'm just about to order another MB
-- but doubt I got a "bad" one out of the gate.
Can anyone suggest what I may have overlooked...? I haven't built a
system in a couple of years, maybe I configured this poorly. I just
need to know what to re-order....

Are you sure the speaker is correctly connected to the MB?
If you remove the video card, do you get a "VGA not present" error
sequence from the speaker? Do you have a PCI video card you could try
instead of AGP? Try dropping FSB, replace the AGP card, and power up.
I know the last one sounds odd, but it was the only way to get a display
out of my current system when I fitted my old radeon 9000 card to it.
If this gives you a display, use the BIOS setup to change the AGP speed
to 4x and disable fast writes (neither will make any noticeable
difference to graphics performance), then try again with the correct FSB.
If all that fails, I would RMA the motherboard. When I used to build
systems as part of a previous job the occasional one would turn up dead.

Maybe they are supposed to be at 166?
In the BIOS, is the primary video set to AGP?

Does the mobo have a 4-pin header near the cpu that used to just be used
for Intel CPUs? However, the later AMD ones also require it to be
connected up.

I would say this is the correct answer specially if youve not built for a
while and it is one of the common mistakes I find in systems brought to me
by people that havent built for a while:)

I can't find a four-pin header and there isn't a reference to it in
the documentation. Here is a schematic on the motherboard. Perhaps
someone can point out what I might have missed:

....just to add to what Larry said, some older power supplies will not have
this 4-pin 12v connector. If so, (your motherboard needs it), you will need
