Hi there (again),

So, after all these years, have the video card limits for a VA503+
been worked out? I was told once that cards over 32meg of vRAM won't
work, but it that true?

What are the highest nVidia and ATi cards that can be used in Windows
XP? GeForce2? GeForce3? 64meg? Yeah, I know it won't go any higher
then AGPx2...

TIA.

Tried a 64Mb ATI Radeon 9000 card in my 503+ and couldn't even get a signal
out to the monitor.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Well, it's not worth spending a lot of money on a TI4200 or Radeon 9700 or
anything like that. You just move the bottleneck to the CPU/motherboard.
Most of the issues with earlier AGP boards were due to excessive current. I
used a 32MB TNT2 Ultra in my 503+ with no problems, but didn't try anything
newer than that. The lower end Radeon 7000/7200/7500 cards should work with
no problems; I'm not sure about the Geforce2/3 cards but I would think an
MX200/MX400/MX440 would be worth a try.

I found the TNT2 Ultra 32MB video card to be about the best match to
the 503+. If you go with a newer card (I've run GeForce 256 DDR 32MB,
GeForce2 GTS 32MB, and GeForce2MX-series 16 & 32MB cards without any
trouble), you'll gain a few (2 to 5) fps, but the motherboard/CPU will
act as the bottleneck. If you really need better graphics performance,
upgrade to an Athlon system.

I've used a Radeon 7500 on a VA-503+ mainboard. It works fine.

GeForce2 MX200 works without problems! (Elsa Gladiac 2 MX, 32MB)

But don't use "Pipelined Burst cache" in BIOS, then it freezes if a
programm use the 3D-commands (D3D, OpenGL).
