In the instructions with my power supply and also the motherboard it
says to plug in the 4 hole 12v plug but there is no such plug on the
power supply. I'm guessing because there IS a 24 hole plug that it is
the one to use and the 4 hole is not used. So why is it in the
instructions of the power supply if there isn't even one available? Is
it because it's a universal instruction book for many different
models?

I just want to make sure there is no issue with not plugging in
anything into that power plug on the motherboard.

Thanks again for everyone's help. I tend to overanalyze things and
make them more complicated.

Joel

Motherboard: GA-965G-DS3(rev. 1.0)
Power supply: Ultra / X-Finity / 600-Watt / ATX / Dual 80mm Fan / SATA-
Ready / SLI Ready

The info here mentions there is a 2x4 connector, and it may detach
into two 2x2 connector sections. You can use one of those to power
the processor on a desktop board. Just be careful, as I don't know
right off hand which half would have the right pin shapes to fit
the 2x2 on the motherboard.

If your mobo *has* a 4 hole connector, you need to plug in the juice. If
your PSU doesn't have one that fits, then you need to get one that does.
I've run into that using older PSU's. Go with the mobo instructions.

If you have a 24 pin plug, then one end of it *may* be removeable, and leave
you with a standard 20 pin plus a 4 pin. Check it out. YMMV.

The odd thing is, it says on the side (or in the instructions) of the
power supply that is DOES have a 4-hole connector but there are only
the really big one and 2 6-hole connectors along with other various
configurations.

Is it new? If so, it proably has it. Like I said, try and separate the end 4
pins from the 24. Mine does this (Rosewill), and I broke it trying to figure
it out. Use a magnifying glass, if you need to. Either way, your mobo needs
the juice......

If I understand the manufacturer's web site correctly, your PS has 8 pin
and 4 pin 12V connectors. It's possible that the 8 pin connector splits into
two 4 pin ones, but that's not clear from the web page.

http://www.ultraproducts.com/product_details.php?cPath=52&pPath=383&pr...ctID=38

The 4 pin 12V power is required by your motherboard, to run the CPU.

The 4 pin connector that can be separated from the 24 pin ATX connector is
completely different. Don't mess with it.

If you can't find a 4 pin connector (or the 8 pin one can't be separated
into two 4 pin ones), then your PSU is missing a connector.

HTH.

Return address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

Great job Paul. That seems to be it. They both fit actually so I'm
guessing (hoping) either one is fine. I'll find out when I finally
power up.

Why no mention of this in the instructions?? Sheesh...
