ide/sata confusion

Post subject: ide/sata confusion

I am using a Mobo of Intels (D925XCV)
This board has just 1 IDE connector and 4 SATA connectors so the ide will
take 2 hard drives/CD/DVDs etc so does that mean i can only plug in 2 SATA
drives? thereby having just 4 drives? i dont want to use RAID.
I must say the Manual for this board is of no help at all in setting up!
Just WHAT is the bottom line with an IDE/SATA? in the number of drives
supported?
The way i see it is that although i have 6 connections available (2xIDE +
4 SATA) in a non raid system (WIN XP PRO) i can only use 4 and if i have 2
DVD/CD drives on the IDE then ihave just the sata for h/drives.

You can use all six. The ide- master/slave and each of the SATA connections
is a separate drive controller

The SATA's are individual channels, whether you use them in a raid or not is
your choice

Yes, it's easier than you think. I just added a 200GB SATA drive to
an existing system with 2 PATA drives and 2 CD/DVD players. Just make
sure the SATA controller is enabled, install the drivers for it, and
then hook up a SATA drive. Go to Win2k/XP's disk manager and
"initialize" and format the drive.
