Performance increase??? - What should I expect to see as far as increases if I go from a 3200+ barton core chip on an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe. To a AMD 64 2800+ on a K8N Neo Platinum? Would it be worth it? or should I wait untill I can afford a faster proc? Thanks..

Post subject: Looking for industry benchmark performanc references for CPU,
Archived from groups: alt>comp>hardware>overclocking>amd (more info?)

Good day:

Not sure I have the right group, but here goes.

I am looking for benchmark industry standards regarding the maximum
utilization level (e.g. %) at which CPUs, memory and other components
and metrics register a decline in system performance or
responsiveness. For example, if my server CPU is operating at 75% vs.
85% of capacity, will the response time be slower for any given
process?

Any web references you could provide would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Luc

That's a very complex question with no simple answer, since there's a lot of
different types of servers, amount of memory, cache, drives, server OS's,
server architecture, domain structure, server tasks OS's and dedicated, etc,
etc. Here's one reference for CPU optimization in MS SQL Server 2005

That seem like a weird question, it is like saying at which speed does
a cars performance decline? Well it's actually worse than that I think.
Obviously at 75% you have 25% left and at 85% you have 15% left.
However... the performance is still really the same it is just that some
of the performance capability is not being used.
Just like saying does my car perfrom better at 40mph or 50 mph?
I don't really think your question is what you want to ask.
Or whatever.
