My current PC has an internal CD-Rom and I think there is an additional
empty slot. I want to install a new CD-RW, should I rip out the CD-Rom and
install it in it's place, or should I install it next to it, if possible. Do
I still need the CD-Rom to install hardware?

I'd leave it in if it's any good (i.e.; decent DAE rates). It makes for
simpler CD copying but with them both on channel not necessarily faster.
