I had the same problem and I fixed it by updating the bios, Linux was
about to find a way around it, but it told me there was an bad string or
inerrant string in the Bios

How large is the disk volume you're trying to install it on? >> Stay informed about: Can't install Windows NT 4, 2000 or Xp on my Abit BX 6 rev 1 |

Tried it on a 60gig and a 10gig. The 60 I found to have a SMART
failure so I used a 10 and that didn't work either.
Thanks

You might want to check your RAM with a good memory tester program.
I have run every OS on this motherboard through WIN 2003 Server with no
problem.
Good Luck

If that doesn't pan out, try creating one 6GB volume (leave the
rest of the drive unpartitioned) and see if you can finish the
installation. Post back with the result. >> Stay informed about: Can't install Windows NT 4, 2000 or Xp on my Abit BX 6 rev 1 |

Great. I thought that would work. You could actually go up
to ~7.8GB without running into the same issue, or higher if
you take the time to slipstream a service pack into a Win2K
installation CD before installing. >> Stay informed about: Can't install Windows NT 4, 2000 or Xp on my Abit BX 6 rev 1 |

I know of an issue, it's far fetched, though. Some mystical errors might
happen, when trying to install a NT-based (NT4, Win2K, XP...) OS on a
board with leaking or bulging caps. Installing a DOS based "OS" might go
like a dream. I met a BF6 with bad caps, she wouldn't take NT4 (just
quit installing, accusing some wierdo problems) but 98SE slipped in
beautifully.
So, check the caps.
