My K7V Dragon+ system + Win XP pro often freeze. If I use Win 2k, the
system never freeze and run w/o the problem. I bought the Dragon+ mbo two
years ago with the Win XP pro. Frist I used Win XP pro, but the system
hunged up so frequently that I switched Win XP to Win 2k pro which I have
used for years. The system is very stable with Win 2k (about two years),
but recently I intalled Win XP again because I use Win XP at work. The
system hunges up once in two or three hours, but it sometime runs without
hungging up for more than one day. Is there any issues to use Win XP pro
with K7V Dragon+ mbo?

I will appriciate any suggestions and opinions.

Thanks in advance,

Sam

Are all of your components compatible with WinXP? There is a compatibility
list at microsoft.com, you may want to check it out. I had an external modem
that I couldn't use once I upgraded to XP.

good point Billy_bat; myself, I am using XP Home with that
motherboard just fine. The fact that you can use 2000 with no problems
tells me the motherboard is fine. You may need to update the motherboard
BIOS, but mine is a very early version and it runs XP fine. You may want
to reset that CMOS before loading XP. Try that. There is a jumper on the
motherboard, near battery. Jumper 5 or JP5 on the motherboard silkscreen.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Sam,

I've been running the Dragon+ as a dual boot with 98 and XP Pro since
I've had it. Xp runs fine...I sometimes get a blue screen hang when
restarting from 98 into XP....appears to be related to the RAID
drivers....but it reboots normally the second time.

You might try setting all of your BIOS settings to their most
conservative settings (memory timings, overclocking, etc) when
installing XP, and see if that makes your system stable. If so, try
bumping things up one at a time and see if something is causing the
"hangs"....

Dean...

I would place my bet to compatibility check, too. Funny thing though is,
that when i installed my system two years ago, (same board, XP1700+ CPU), it
didn't run W98, but it runs perfectly XP Pro. But i've had lockups when
installing W98 - didn't get to finish install...
Also check your drivers and make sure they are all XP compatible. Some W2000
are OK, but most are not - you must get XP ones.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
