lexmark printer problems

I have a lexmark x5470 printer that used to work fine. I recently
purchased a new laptop with a copy of windows xp professional. I
cannot get my computer to work with the lexmark printer. What happens
is that the software installs, I can see the printer, but I cannot
print to it due to a communication error window that comes up which
tells me that 'communication is not available.' It appears that
Windows Firewall is allowing the printer as an exception.
Does anyone have any suggestions on why this printer is not working
and what I could do to fix it? Thanks.
