Post subject: how to limit cd speed/transfer rate
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>cd-rom (more info?)

i noticed that when i read out data cd's to my laptop harddrive, i
don't really gain anything when i go to the highest cd speed. at half
of the maximum speed, i have the same transfer rate and my laptop
doesn't sound like a plane. i tested CD SPEED 3.1 and it is basically
what i want. however, to pay $15 for such an application seems a
little steep to me. is there a way to make changes to the hardware so
that i run at a different transfer rate? using xp home.

thanks!

Tobi,

If you have Nero CD burning software, it has a utility called Nero
DriveSpeed which can limit the maximum rate of your CDROM drive.

Anyhow, would this also work with an ordinary Cd-rom drive that is
kinda spinning out of control(too fast)?

Just simply install Nero Burning ROM software package... The DEMO version...
Once you install it, you'll have Drivespeed application, with which you can
change your CD-ROM drive speed if it supports... You can make Drivespeed
run at startup...

They may be Nero-branded, but they aren't exclusive!
